Jackson police charge man with selling fake Beats By Dre headphones

Jackson police have arrested a man after someone reported he was selling counterfeit headphones on Craigslist.
Recently, Jackson Police Investigators were contacted by a citizen about being sold counterfeit merchandise, according to a news release from the Jackson Police Department.
The person explained that he found an ad on Craigslist offering “beats by dr. dre” studio headphones for sale. He contacted the person who had them listed and purchased a set, the police said.
Afterwards, the person observed that the headphones appeared cheaply made. Working with the manufacturer, they were determined to be counterfeit --- cheaply made fakes that are made to resemble the real product Beats By Dre, Jackson police said.

The citizen agreed to set up another purchase. For this meetup, he was accompanied by investigators with the Jackson-Area Law Enforcement Retailer Team (J-ALERT).
MillikenWhen the seller arrived, he offered the same product previously determined to be counterfeit, according to police. Investigators examined them and determined they were also counterfeit.
Michael Milliken, Jr., of Jackson, was taken into custody. During the arrest, investigators found eight additional pairs of the counterfeit headphones in Milliken's vehicle.
Milliken was charged with the use of a counterfeit mark or logo over $1,000. The code is graded the same as theft so over $1,000, which is a felony charge, according to the police.
The value is determined as the retail value of the legitimate product. In this case, the value of the headphones was approximately $2,700. Milliken was arraigned in Jackson City Court Thursday morning and he received a $3,000 bond. His next court date was set for March 21.
The Jackson Police Department urges citizens to take care when purchasing or conducting business on internet bulletin boards.
